UTCN Appeal Information - Exempt vehicle
Your Tyne Tunnel is a grassroots campaign group providing an independent voice for customers using any of the tunnels under the Tyne.
This information is based on either published sources available in the public domain or gathered from other users, our opinion is our own, you should make your own decisions as to whether you should appeal or pay your UTCN.
If you’ve got an exempt vehicle it is probably already registered with TT2 and you have a ‘free pass tag’ or 'exempt status' on the ANPR system.
However you may still get a UTCN and TT2 will victim-blame ‘its your fault for not stopping" or something equally stupid if their system doesn't work as it should. Of course we encourage you to make sure you are registered correctly and the number plate is correct etc to try and prevent you having any hassle as far as is reasonable for you to do so.
If you have received a UTCN and are an exempt user, the normal appeals process on the TT2 website should put it right and we encourage you to engage with the process to register your main vehicle with the tunnel operator.
If you get a UTCN and your vehicle is exempt this is what you can do to get it waived:
Go to the appeals website https://payyourtoll.tt2.co.uk/payUTCN/ , select appeal, select ‘other’ [very bottom of list] and in the ‘mitigation’ section post the same text wording(adapted to suit your circumstances): "My vehicle is an exempt vehicle. As such no toll ever falls due. Therefore it is neither late nor unpaid. In light of this, the UTCN is totally unenforceable, and I insist you cancel it immediately. I now consider this matter closed. Any further collections communication from you with regard to this UTCN will be considered harassment.

We recommend that if you do not receive a satisfactory response you write to your MP and ask them to take it up on your behalf.
If your case has already gone to CDER and you are receiving enforcement letters or calls, see our CDER page for some suggestions as to what you can do to stop this.
